Bedroom, Devon
About the Project
Colour-drenched calm
The Brief
When I first saw this bedroom, it was the legacy of a quick move-in decoration job; functional, but lacking in personality. The couple wanted a space that felt more intentional and reflective of them. One half was a self-proclaimed maximalist, the other leaned towards minimalism. They agreed, however, on one thing: they wanted a green space that felt like a hug from nature.
The Design Process
The key challenge was balancing two very different styles. We decided to embrace a bold, maximalist use of colour, drenching the walls and ceiling in rich green to create an immersive, cocooning feel. This gave the room depth, character, and that ‘hug from nature’ quality they both wanted. To keep the scheme harmonious, accessories were kept low-key. Mirrors were chosen to bounce light and make the colour feel expansive, while calming prints and houseplants added softness without overwhelming the space. The end result balanced boldness and restraint in a way that suited both personalities.
The Result
The finished bedroom is striking yet soothing. The deep green backdrop creates intimacy and warmth, while pared-back accessories, plants, and artwork keep the space calm and breathable. It’s a room that celebrates colour while still feeling restful, a perfect blend of maximalist impact and minimalist restraint.
